The story of IRMG is deeply rooted in the resilience and entrepreneurial spirit of our founder, Kelly Yeung. Emigrating from Hong Kong in 1968, Kelly embarked on a transformative journey that exemplifies the American Dream. After spending his initial years in Canada, he relocated to South Florida, driven by a passion for innovation and a commitment to excellence.
Kelly’s foray into the restaurant business began with a full-service restaurant in Miami Beach in 1975. Over the next decade, he honed his expertise, leading to the establishment of IRMG, which has since become a global leader in the quick-service restaurant (QSR) industry.
In 1987, Kelly launched Chinese Cafes in Miami’s Bayside Marketplace, marking IRMG’s entry into the QSR space. This success was followed by the inception of Kelly’s Cajun Grill in 1991, introducing the world to the now iconic “World Famous Bourbon Chicken.” The brand’s immediate popularity paved the way for international expansion, with stores in Mexico, Ecuador, Guatemala, and Canada by the mid-1990s.
A Legacy of Innovation and Growth
IRMG’s unique approach to the QSR industry has been instrumental in its success. Exclusively operating in non-traditional spaces such as retail malls, the company has grown to manage over 200 restaurants across 30 states in the U.S. This strategic focus has not only reduced overheads but also provided faster returns on investment, solidifying IRMG’s reputation as a pioneer in the food court dining experience.
One of IRMG’s significant milestones is its partnership with Popeyes®. Since opening its first location in 2016 at Concord Mills Mall, IRMG has become Popeyes® largest North American developer, operating 67 locations. This achievement highlights the company’s ability to adapt and thrive, even in competitive markets.
Expanding Horizons in the MENA Region
Building on its success in the United States and beyond, IRMG has set its sights on the rapidly growing markets of the Middle East and North Africa (MENA). With its vibrant food culture and increasing demand for high-quality dining experiences, the MENA region presents a wealth of opportunities for IRMG’s innovative concepts.
Kelly’s Cajun Grill, a staple in food courts worldwide, has already made its mark in the UAE with locations in some of Dubai’s most iconic malls, including Dubai Mall, Mall of the Emirates, and Deira City Centre. These outlets have garnered widespread acclaim for their unique Louisiana-inspired flavors and exceptional service.
Looking ahead, IRMG plans to expand further across the region, exploring opportunities in Saudi Arabia, Qatar, Kuwait, and Oman. The company is also actively seeking partnerships to bring its renowned food court concepts to key retail destinations, including potential flagship locations in Makkah.
